But if it is weak, the child may hesitate, feel afraid, and remain stuck. This staircase represents <strong>self-efficacy<\/strong> (Albert Bandura, 1977) \u2013 the belief in one\u2019s own ability. This fear often comes from experiences of being laughed at, compared to others, or scolded for giving the wrong answer. Over time, they develop the thought: \u201cI\u2019m not good \u2192 I shouldn\u2019t even try.\u201d<!-- notionvc: 32b1849c-9baa-466d-8ea5-d38eea631a3e --><\/p>\n<p>In contrast, Carol Dweck (2006) showed that when children adopt a <span class=\"notion-enable-hover\" data-token-index=\"1\">growth mindset<\/span>, they believe their abilities can improve through effort and practice. Normalize mistakes<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">When a child answers incorrectly, say: \u201cIt\u2019s okay to be wrong, let\u2019s try another way\u201d instead of \u201cWhy did you get it wrong?\u201d Positive language helps children avoid linking mistakes to their self-worth.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>2. Recognize effort, not just results<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Praise the process: \u201cYou really thought carefully before answering\u201d rather than only \u201cThat\u2019s correct.\u201d This reinforces the idea that success comes from effort.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>3.
